President Donald Trump announced today on Truth Social that the United States will cancel any planned airstrikes on Iran, provided a rapid diplomatic deal can be achieved.
In a brief post, Trump wrote, “I have agreed, for the future benefit of the WORLD and, likewise, the survival of a successful and prosperous Iran, to cancel the attack, subject to being able to rapidly make a DEAL.” The decision was reportedly made in coordination with Israel and follows U.S. media reports that the administration was preparing new, intense strikes on Tehran over the weekend.
Tehran warned that any state cooperating with Washington would be “engulfed by the flames of war.” Trump said he was “asked” by Iran and other Middle Eastern countries to hold off, with the goal of reaching an agreement that would include the immediate, complete, and total opening of the Hormuz Strait and an end to Iran’s nuclear threat.
In light of the tension, the U.S. government has urged Americans currently in the Middle East to stay alert, be prepared for flight cancellations, possible airspace closures, and potential travel disruptions.
