SPRING, Texas (AP) — Daniel Moreno-Gama was arrested for reportedly throwing a Molotov cocktail at the home of OpenAI founder Sam Altman in San Francisco, with court documents revealing his radical opposition to artificial intelligence (AI). The incident occurred around 4 a.m. on a Friday, setting an exterior gate on fire, after which the suspect fled on foot.
Following the attack, Moreno-Gama allegedly threatened to burn down OpenAI's headquarters. Federal agents later searched his home in Spring, Texas, and discovered a document outlining his views against AI and its executives.
Moreno-Gama has been charged with possession of an unregistered firearm and destruction of property through explosives. His actions have sparked outrage among advocacy groups warning of AI’s societal risks.
In a blog post, Altman shared a photo of his family, expressing his hope that sharing such personal moments might deter further violence. He stated, 'Fear and anxiety about AI is justified,' but emphasized the need for calm discussions rather than violent actions.
