At least six people were killed and 22 others injured when a bomb exploded at a crowded café in central Damascus, Syria, according to Syrian state‑media reports.

The interior ministry said the explosive device was planted inside the café, located about 100 metres from the Palace of Justice in the capital’s Hejaz district.

No group has claimed responsibility, though authorities have now pointed to the Islamic State following similar attacks in the region.

Witnesses described the blast as “reminiscent of the civil‑war era” and reported seeing victims “lying on the floor with blood pooled around them.” A graphic video posted on social media shows men motionless on the café’s terrace.

Damascus Governor Maher Marwan Idlibi vowed that those responsible would be punished, stating that stability is often threatened “by malicious parties.”

The attack comes amid renewed violence, as Islamist‑led rebel forces recently overthrown Bashar al‑Assad in December 2024, plunging the nation into a new chapter after 13 years of civil war.
